It’s the way clay is. Somethings don’t survive. You’ve got to be willing to lose it, to face the heartbreak, to turn to that fresh block of clay and try again.
I knocked it’s foot on the side of the kiln as I was loading this piece. There are only so many times one can fix before it is damaged beyond repair. Three strikes and you’re out.
I picked up the pieces from the floor of the kiln, then set at salvaging what I could use. These piece will make good glaze test pieces. Try to make chicken salad as they say.
I’ll start again. The next time it will be better.

Amazing how you can stay so positive — I would be devistated. Ok I will me devistated for you -and me, as I will not be able to enjoy this “lost” piece.
I’m sorry for your loss
But I look forward to the fun new glazes that will come of it!
you should try out your raku???

oh crapola, Sarah…..
Yeah…sometimes it really IS hard to say…”it’s just dirt”, isn’t it…..
I can imagine you felt felt just like I did at GiG…… a big fat kick in the chest…..
Say…when you bisque those pieces….can you send me one? I really think I could use one for inspiration!!!! Because SOMEDAY I’m really gonna carry out that design we discussed…..and having a bigass paw of yours to stare at would be rockin’!
BTW…..I’m REALLY sorry that dog didn’t make it…probably some sort of secret defect somewhere that you didn’t know about…so it kamikazeed.
Ooooo(I’m jumping up and down by the way), Robin has a great idea. Would you be interested in puting your greyhound paws in the store for purchase? I think I would like to have one as well. It would look neat on a book shelf.
Wish you lived closer. Would love to have some of your broken but identifiable greyhound pieces to use as garden art.
